You’ve never waited tables, I see. I’m sorry, but it’s fucking HARD sometimes! I used to have nightmares when I did this in college. All of us did — we’d dream we couldn’t get to our tables. Timing it to have the salads or appetizers come out at the right time, then the rest, is not as easy as you must think, especially when you have multiple tables at different stages of their meals. Good servers tend to end up at better restaurants with more experience menus so they can make more. I don’t go out to eat more than a few times per year because it’s just too expensive. But when I do, I tip approximately. No server owes me cheap service.
