You know … a sourdough starter is made from flour and water. No other ingredients are required to make bread, (though salt sure helps.) But everything needed is already present in the flour.

Everything needed for a good country is already present, too. But it’s as if I were making bread and decided to mix in some dog shit. An otherwise great loaf would be utterly ruined.
