You just keep congratulating yourself for this one thing. It’s what many people do. They are so proud of one thing but are failing in various other things — they don’t talk about those other parts of life where they don’t have it together. Some people have a talent for making money but they’re failing with their kids or marriage. Or they’re great at keeping house but terrible at staying involved in their community. Or they are great at a sport but don’t know how to cook. Nobody has everything figured out. Maybe they never read a book. Maybe they never volunteer. Maybe they keep screwing up friendships. You might think about the fact that if we measured each other’s lives, we’d probably find that we both have our good and bad parts. And then maybe you’d regret being judgy about people who are doing their best.
