Young women who take up with old men because they need the money aren't happy with this situation. They are resigned to it.

Nobody is actually that happy with this arrangement, including the old men who have "bought" a younger woman. He is missing out on the true partnership people generally hope to have, and he traded in the possibility of a soulmate for a piece of arm candy who isn't that into him. And he knows it.
