Where I live, it’s tornados. I haven’t been affected directly, but a few years ago (while I was still a newspaper editor, so that was a challenge) a big one hit here — Washington, East Peoria and Pekin. A friend in Washington and her young daughter were lucky to survive and had to be pulled from the rubble.
Every area has its dangers and it’s important to know what your vulnerabilities are and to be prepared.
I don’t think we can count on the system to protect us anymore.
