Way back in the early 1990s, I lived in a 1925 arts and crafts bungalow with a great porch with a swing. We used it all the time, because we did not have cable or central air. Our Black neighbors used their porches as gathering places. They'd fire up grills on their front porches and have a ton of people over. But all our white neighbors stayed inside.

And yes, a porch swing is a fantastic place to nurse babies!

Great memories. Thank you.

(We now have a nice covered deck instead, which serves much the same purpose. I've written a bunch about how we've made our house a great place to hang out, if you're interested.)
