This would have been a great resource to share with a mom I met about 30 years ago.
I LOVED being a SAHM because I was dying for babies from a young age and I’m not remotely a structure person. I found the whole time hugely fulfilling. I had frequent get-togethers with other moms and their kids. I followed new interests, started organizations, read more, started a home biz, used the profits to buy part of a store — it was fab for me. It is not so fab for people who like structure, I can see. I remember a mom who was very professionally accomplished who struggled more than anyone else I’d ever met. I met her either via LLL or she may have been a customer of my home business (which sold pumps, bras, slings, etc.) We spoke on the phone every day for quite a long time. She didn’t understand why her regular professional skills didn’t work with mothering. I encouraged her to also speak to her doctor about PPD. I recall at some point, she did adjust and learn to enjoy her baby and accept that babies don’t always subject themselves to management techniques. I don’t remember her name, but I have a letter somewhere from her that I got later, telling me how much I’d helped her. But your piece would have been perfect to share with her.
