Ther are not, in fact, a lot of grants and scholarships for working class people. My children got jack. Their "financial aid" was 100 percent loans, and believe me, we are far from well-off.
Also, I would love for you to check out my handy graphic. Those costs are for a state school. This is not a fancy place to go, and there is not any place that's going to be cheaper. I am always hearing that the problem is that kids are picking fancy schools, but that's not true. The state schools are expensive, too.
THERE ARE NO INEXPENSIVE COLLEGES TO PICK OR WE'D HAVE PICKED THEM.
Let me spell it out: When I went, a semester's tuition was equal to 224 hours of work. When my daughter went, it was equal to 442 hours of work, and it is now up to 644 hours of work (more for people who don't make $15 per hour, as many do not. Depends where you live.)
