The advantage of meeting someone through mutual friends/family members is they know if the person is trustworthy. I met my husband through a friend who is related to him -- she actually stayed in his house for a while when she moved to his country, plus she'd gotten to know him when she and her grandmother made trips to see the family each summer. So I didn't worry about certain things I'd have worried about if I'd met him on an app.
