Some people will feel motivated to care about whether they infect others and will take precautions. Others only care about themselves. If this had come up as a hypothetical question five years ago, I would have predicted more people would be willing to take the very simple precaution of wearing a mask in order to help protect others. I’d have argued that only the most selfish would insist they had a right to put others at risk by skipping a mask in risky situations.
I’d have been half right.
