One of my best friends is working on his sobriety. He’s a brilliant and successful person but for as long as I’ve known him, he’s drunk frighteningly large amounts daily. I’ve driven this friend to medical dry-out places and to the ER and he’s done two stints in fancy rehab resorts. You know what’s really working right now? Soberlink. It’s expensive but it’s giving him his life back. He blows into a device three times a day. It works with his smartphone to verify his identity. I get emailed reports that confirm each test. His therapist and at least one other person get these reports. Knowing we will find out immediately if he drinks has kept him sober. I was afraid this friend would die — that’s how bad it got. Addiction is such a terrible thing.
