Ok, I’m very far from being a believer in American exceptionalism, as I’m married to a European. But I’ve never paid anything like those prices, and people here do know each other, and doctors make MUCH more than the $12 they’d get at Arby’s (which was $8.50 pre-pandemic). I think it’s just some particular area where you were based.
