Oh, hogwash. Nobody is trying to convert anybody's gender. What we ARE trying to do is let people be who they are. Lots of trans kids have killed themselves. I'd prefer they live their authentic lives. Wouldn't you?

A little personal story: A family member I love very much married someone who had known she felt like a girl, not a boy, since she was 4 years old. This person understood that nobody would understand, so she duly lived as a man all her life. She suppressed her feelings. At a certain point -- it happened to be when my family member was pregnant with their second child -- the spouse came out as transgender. My family member's husband became a wife. It has not been good, frankly, in ways I won't go into out of respect for their privacy. Do you REALLY think it would not have been better for everyone involved if this person had been allowed to gracefully transition BEFORE marrying and having a family? I think everyone involved would have been much better off. It's easy to say, "Well, this transwoman ought to have continued living as a man forever." I think this person would have done so if she could have, but she just could not continue. She ripped up the lives of many people and if she'd felt able to come out as trans as a younger person, a lot of misery would have been avoided for everyone.

How about you think about this some more?
