Oh gosh, our mattress is a wreck! It’s only about 10 years old, but it’s been put to hard use — and not always of the fun kind. Last year, my husband had two knee replacements and an unrelated broken leg and spent an awful lot of time lying in bed with a leg elevated and iced. Before that, for years he would come home from work and get straight into bed with an icepack on each knee. He’d eat dinner in bed, even. His knees hurt so much. The knee replacement has been incredible for him. But our mattress is awful. It would have been more sensible to purchase a mattress than an espresso machine, for sure. But we are growing older and don’t know how much time we will have, and sharing an espresso together is something that brings up deep joy.

I didn’t earn $1,000 my first month, btw. I published pieces on or about the first of the month in March, April and May, I think, that delineated my journey, if you want to read those. I do publish nearly every day, but I love doing it.

I’m a terrible sleeper. Nothing has improved it — no mattress, no prescription, no exertion, no exercise, no supplement — nothing. I’ve had sleep studies and I’m just doomed to be tired every single day of my life because I do not spend enough time in deep sleep. It’s another reason why I’m better off enjoying a tiny cup of espresso than a full cup of coffee — a little less caffeine. My husband could guzzle coffee and espresso all day long without issue but I need to take a tiny bit and enjoy it fully and then have no more.
