OF COURSE people stop doing things that don't pay much. That happens all the time.

Also, there are an awful lot of jobs that many peiople want to do, but can't for one reason or another. For example, I'd have liked to study law, but I couldn't afford law school. That kept me out of a lot of potential fields. It was all I could do to get my bachelor's and had no way to afford anything beyond that later.
