Obviously, I don't want babies to suffer -- or moms -- but it's really too bad he would say something incorrect instead of offering you the option of continuing to nurse without causing the baby pain. Unless you said you did not want to nurse anymore, he ought to have suggested an elimination diet -- focusing on dairy at first because that's usually the problem, but also asking you about any family food allergies you might have. He should also have referred you to an IBCLC, because there's a decent chance that something fairly simple was the cause. I don't know because I wasn't there. I just feel very strongly that doctors should learn about lactation management, and it's literally impossible for a baby to be allergic to his mother's milk.
