Nope, you aren't understanding this at all. You're putting words in the author's mouth and then arguing against them. Not cool -- and who knows, if this is your common practice, it may be at least part of the reason you haven't found anyone to settle down with. People don't like having words they never said put in their mouth. They just dont.
