Nonsense. You're telling me people don't have kitchens? I am sure there are a few people in the U.S. who live in illegal housing who don't, but essentially everybody has some kind of kitchen with a refrigerator, stove and sink. Who said anything about dishwashers? I don't have one and don't need one. If you don't have a counter, I am sure you have a table of some sort, right? If you cannot afford an apartment with even the most basic cooking equipment, you sure as hell can't afford to eat out. Is that your argument? People living in big cities can do without cars because they have public transportation. Where I live, people need cars because we don't have public transportation. No, a thrift store is not a "luxury." I've seen them in all kinds of neighborhoods. You're seriously telling me it's more practical for a poor person to go out to eat for every meal instead of making a one-time purchase of some basic cooking equipment that they could likely purchase for $50 from a one-time trip to a thrift store? Really? I've spend a good amount of my life with very little money, part of it in poverty. I know how this works. Do you?
