My son is 30 years old. He doesn’t want to live in his childhood bedroom. He wants his own space. He is going to pay rent somewhere. He’s happy to pay it to me. There is no way I could give him the house for free. The payments exceed my income many months. Besides, I have a daughter. Should I also make her house payment for her? I need to find someone who will hire me and pay me far more than I’ve ever been paid before. My son is glad to life in his childhood home and we set the price, initially, to what he could afford that covers my bare expenses. He later urged me to raise it slightly, since he makes more than enough money to meet his needs and I struggle.
There’s no problem here. And of course he’s a good tenant— I raised him!
