My little Cashew is an elderly tripod beagle mix with a sad past. We got her in 2021, and she does not like for me to ever leave the house. Antidepressants and perhaps time have helped a little, in that I can run errands with her panicking. But here’s the thing: My Dutch husband hasn’t seen his family for five years. He’s longing to visit. But he cannot bear to break this dog’s heart. The other will be fine — both dogs love my son, who would dog sit. It’s seriously tough.
