My husband is Dutch and I'm American. The paperwork is onerous and the expense was higher than we could comfortably afford, but it wasn't anything impossible. We met in April 2004 and took turns flying to meet each other 2-3 times a year until he moved here in 2006 on the fiance visa. I had consulted an immigration attorney who told me NOT to get married until he was here on the fiance visa. Apparently, it's a lot easier to bring over a fiance than a spouse.
