My first husband got a vasectomy after we had two children. My second husband got one bcz I was 40-plus and past the age of safety. Both made responsible choices.
In neither case was it a matter of “giving up hope.” My first husband wanted only two children and did not want to risk another pregnancy; we could easily have had more of we wanted; I was young and very fertile. My second husband and I would have liked to have had a child, but we feared the risks of having one at that age. Nobody was giving up. We were just making smart choices.
