Apparently, teenage girls no longer go to the movies with boys. A friend of mine who is just a few years younger than me said she never went on movie dates in high school, thanks to everyone getting VCRs just when she hit prime dating age.

There were two movie theaters a reasonable drive from where I grew up, and I went on countless movie dates. We were too young to drink, so it was pretty much that or go out for pizza once we were old enough to drive.

The downside of a movie for a first date is that you can’t talk. The upside of a movie, for an introvert, is that you don’t have to. Afterward, when you do need to talk, you have a ready subject. You have the movie to talk about.

Worst date ever:

Conan the Barbarian: This movie gets first place because it’s the only time someone actually abandoned me mid-way through the date.

I am going to sound worse than I really am when I tell this story. Or maybe I really am terrible; you can judge me as you like.
