Migrants from places where things are very bad are trying to get into any country where things are better. We are the closest destination for places like central America, where our meddling screw things up for those folks quite a bit.
I sincerely hope you do not think people from Europe, Canada, Japan, Australia and other well-functioning places want to come to the U.S. My husband is Dutch -- he came here for me, but we both understand he gave up a much better life in Holland. The U.S. is a large step down from what he's used to.
Europeans also contend with immigration from troubled area into better-functioning ones.
