Lots to unpack here. I have lived in a tiny rural town that was 100 percent white, in a good-sized city that was very mixed, in a very white suburban town and now in a small town that is also not very diverse. I saw a lot of racism from the "I'm not racist, but" sort. People generally believed themselves not to be racist, but did things without understanding they were racist.
