I've heard of the jeans freezing thing and like you, I am not a fan. Freezing doesn't actually kill any micro-organisms who may be feasting on your dead skin cells and dried sweat -- witness the fact that you can freeze bread dough and the yeast spring right back to life as soon as you bring the dough to room temperature. My jeans go into the wash. They still last for many years despite that.
