I’ve got a goldfish pond in my backyard and they overwinter fine — I do cover the pond in winter and turn on a stock heater in the coldest weather to keep a hold in the ice for heat exchange. Some of them have been there for more than a decade, others hatched there. I’d never give a fish to an unprepared family. I don’t like to see any creature suffer.
