Interesting side note: In the book, Mia is not ever described as Black. They changed it for the movie. I have not seen the movie, so I don't have an opinion about it. I did enjoy the book, which had plenty to say about class but somewhat less to say about race. The rich daughter had a Black boyfriend and of course there was the Asian woman whose baby was nearly adopted by a white family, so it did confront racism, but in a different way than, apparently, the movie did.
