Informed consent as it's practiced now is a joke. We perform unnecessary c-sections left and right. We remove healthy foreskins from infant boys routinely. Few people balk at these. They scrawl a signature on a form without reading it, and even if they read it, the forms are just boilerplate. I DO believe in informed consent, but I don't think we do a good job of it at all.
