In high school I read a bunch of his work and wrote papers about him. (I was super cool, guys!)
I still admire him. The school didn’t appreciate that I felt emboldened to take stands on everything after reading him. They wanted me to pay for “excessive wear” on a textbook. I refused. They said I wouldn’t get my final grades if I didn’t. I said I didn’t care; I was sure I’d done fine and didn’t need to see them. I had done nothing to the book and felt this was a fine time to stand up to the man. They finally gave in.
Yes, this was a very small thing, but it was a formative experience for me.
