I'm white and hated my curly hair all my life. Now that I'm gray, the hair texture is much less curly but still definitely not straight. For most of my younger years, I had to wash, blow dry and curl my hair every single day. Without fail. My hair was truly too unkempt to leave the house without going through all that. I FINALLY managed to grow out all my layers and bangs after I was 50 and now I can at least capture everything in a ponytail or clip. Layers were always encouraged when I was younger. Well, layers are nice as far as helping display your curl pattern, but layers also meant no quick way to present myself neatly. I recommend encouraging your daughter to grow out her hair enough that she always has the option of an easy pulled-back style. I would also recommend you find a Curly Girl hair stylist. I learned a lot when I went to one. I'm not doing the curly hair right now, but I used to.
