I'm an old newspaper journalist, so I get that news is often bad. We do not write "Nobody dies in overnight house fire."
There are terrible things happening right now, and we cannot ignore them. So yes, I do write some gloom and doom. But I also write about all kinds of other stuff. I also write a lot of satire, which is a good way to talk about terrible things while also being funny about it.
We need all kinds of stories. Figure out what kind you like to write, and you'll find your natural audience.
And if you want a straight-up funny story to give you a break, go find my old piece, "The mailman has been trying to murder us for years." It's about my dog, and who doesn't love dogs?
