If you look at the very old newspapers, they are chock-full of ads for locally owned ladies dress shops, toy stores, bakeries, camera shops, shoe stores, baby stores, you name it. They are all gone now; replaced by Walmart and Dollar General etc. Neither advertises in local newspapers and the papers barely exist, partly because of this. So there’s no local news, so all sorts of really awful things happen. It’s all tied together.
