If you have a rapport with them, ask them if they're working for need or enjoyment. Personally, I have never seen a job as a source of a social life. I'd prefer to spend time with friends and family, not to scan grocery items. I have very little sympathy for people who don't know what to do with themselves and who just watch TV. If not for my husband enjoying it, I wouldn't even own a TV.
