I, too, used to believe in the marketplace of ideas theory. I dedicated my entire life to it, by working as a journalist. It was my sincere belief that if we provided good information, people could make good choices.

But now? People are deliberately flooding the marketplace of ideas with propaganda and lies. The truth can barely be found through all the shit. Russia contributes, but so does the GOP and plenty of others.

There is NOT an easy answer to this, and government censorship is not the same thing as a platform declining to allow itself to be used to mislead the public. There is every reason to believe Russia bots helped foist Trump on us, and it was because we were too timid to address this problem.
