I think about this a lot.

If we all had to take time to make everything in our lives, we would need thousands of extra hours per year. We couldn't even finish making all the pieces of clothing most of us wear. We would never have time to make all our furniture, or all our tools -- even if we had the knowledge and materials and skills, we would never have the time. One modest house and its contents would require God only knows how many human-hours of work! Every fork, chair and picture frame would be valued and passed on. Now, things are thrown out after minimal use and you know your grandkids will throw it all into a dumpster one day.
