I take exception to your view that student debt is a red flag. When you say you must live within your means, you are assuming everybody has means. You say you got help from your parents, but if they had not been able to help you, you'd have needed to borrow money to establish yourself.

It's a huge help when one's family of origin is privileged enough to help you get started.
