I still think you are confused. You don't know what "popular novels" means. You cannot define them by what you read or didn't read at any specific age. And Hollywood makes movies of both popular and serious books. You can't seriously think otherwise.

Hemingway's writing style championed clarity and simplicity. He started out as a journalist, and the importance of clarity is stressed to journalists.
