I married a Dutch man 16 years ago and we are living in the U.S. I have failed at my attempts to learn very much Dutch, but we are seldom able to visit the Netherlands so it's not a problem most of the time. (I'm still trying.)
We have a good marriage. There aren't nearly as many cultural differences as I thought there might be. I've noticed that my husband and I have fewer cultural differences than my wealthy American friend (known as Berlin when I write about her on Medium) and I have. He and I were both raised in families without a lot of money, and that's the same all over the world.
