I love this. Thank you for writing it. I’m not disabled, but I have been mostly staying at home for several years because I make my living as a writer and am fairly broke. So many of the things my peers take for granted, like eating out, shopping for fun, etc., have been mostly out of my reach for several years. I’m not going to lie; seeing others express how difficult it is for them to have to do their own nails and hair, clean their own homes, mow their own lawns, cook all their own food at home and stay home for weeks at a time has been a little bit satisfying. I’m sorry if that makes me a bad person, but it’s the truth. I recognize that not having a disability is not at all the same as having very little money, and I’m thankful that I don’t have pain or mobility issues. My hope is that long-term, we can reshape society so it works better for everyone, regardless of their health or prosperity. And I also hope we will all be able to have a little more empathy for others. (I’m trying hard to have empathy for people who are struggling to cope with suddenly having their life downgraded to the one I’ve I’ve been living of necessity.)
