I have read that people did know very well how to grow plants -- that they understood how to stick it in the ground and make it grow, but they didn't quite make the connection that they could turn it into a whole process. Its also true that the switch from HG to farmers was bad for people's health for many generations. HGs had a healthier and more varied diet, and the farmers left behind smaller skeletons. Sounds like a great book.
