I have a big house with a great yard. It's a quiet, safe, walkable neighborhood. I'm walking distance from bars, restaurants, municipal services, a grocery store and pharmacies. I paid just under $100K in 2008 and it's nearly paid for. The flip side is, it hasn't appreciated and likely won't. It's not an investment in the same way that some homes are. But remote workers -- especially modestly paid writers -- ought to think about places like where I live.
