I had my babies in 89 and 92 and the hospitals were rude and disrespectful because I had birth plans, which they disapproved of.
Sounds as if your mean OB purposely stripped your membranes. Had she not (apparently) done that, you may not have actually gone into full labor that day. It may have happened a few days later, and a natural labor is far less painful and stressful to the baby than a Pitocin-driven labor. There’s certainly no way of knowing what could have been. But if you have another child, planning and getting to know whomever may deliver the baby is a very good idea if at all possible. I believe birth plans are really helpful, although you need to be flexible because every birth is unique. We cannot control it, but we can influence how likely it is for one thing or another to happen.I did not get the births I wanted even with my plans, but the doctors and nurses knew my preferences. My second was by cesarean, which I’d hoped to avoid. Recovery is much faster after a vaginal birth, and my son took a long time to breathe, which is sometimes a problem with cesarean births. Still, because of my birth plan, they knew I wanted to hold him as soon as possible to nurse, and they helped me try while I was still being closed. I’m glad you and your baby are doing well now.
