The grand irony of the story is that Gina was spending most of her waking hours trying to maintain some semblance of stability for her children, but between the constant worry, the endless bureaucratic bullshit that comes with applying for government programs, the frantic job applications, and the juggling act required to literally keep the lights on, she wasn’t actually able to pay all that much attention to said children.
