I don't know where you live. I'm told things are worse in some states. But in central Illinois, teachers are paid very, very well. I was married to a teacher for 15 years, so I understand how the pay scale works. The beginning pay where I am is more than $40K -- quite good. You can buy a nice house here for less than $100K. Teachers in this area live very comfortably.
