I disagree that being a wife or mother is “desexualizing.” In fact, I find the suggestion of this troubling. Where does this notion come from? I assure you, I have always a sexual person even when caring for young children was my daily life. It reminds me of attending a performance of The Vagina Monologues and afterward, during the audience discussion, a college-aged woman made some disparaging comment about a stereotypical mom in a minivan being nonsexual. I couldn’t let that go: I loudly proclaimed that this was insulting, and that her assumption that moms weren’t sexual anymore was pretty sexist.
This statement is far to close to backing up the Madonna/whore dichotomy.
