I detest John Wayne!

No Oscar nominations? Not even one? For the iconic closing shot alone, this brilliant western ought to have won Best Picture. However, there are many more reasons. For one thing, John Wayne has never been better, playing a much darker character than usual in Ethan Edwards. His pathological hatred of the Comanche who abducted his niece is such that he’s even prepared to kill her if they’ve raped her.
