I could write a whole book on this subject, and so could you, I am sure. I have respect for traditional conservative principles and wouldn't have refused to date someone who had supported either Bush, even though I'm more liberal (not necessarily a dyed-blue-in-the-wool Democrat, but there's no practical alternative right now). However, I see Trump as a whole different category.
But mainly, I'm shocked. OK, I don't actually know you at all, but judging from your writing, you seem funny and charming and insightful. You love your difficult dog. You even cook! (Or you used to.) WTF have you not had quality men falling at your feet? There's no excuse for the assholes you describe, and I'm sorry they took up one single day of your life.
My husband is an immigrant. He gave up his business in the Netherlands to come to the U.S. 16 years ago to marry me, and we knew he'd have to accept whatever work he could find when he got here. He is presently a buyer in a factory that makes metal parts. Factories are pretty red-leaning places anyway and we live in a conservative part of Illinois (not Chicago). But many of the people he works with are solid, hard-working people who would do anything for you — and yet they support Trump. I have been trying to understand this since before the previous election and I still cannot wrap my head around it.
