I chose my last two houses on the basis of walkable neighborhoods, because I once lived in a rural subdivision that required a drive for every single thing. Now, I live in an old house in an old neighborhood, and I have a grocery store, a drugstore, the post office, the courthouse, almost all city and county offices, bars and a couple of restaurants without walking distance. I'm married to a Dutch man, so I'm aware of how nice it is to be able to walk to places.
