I, as well as countless other journalists, BEGGED the news corporations to stop giving away our work online. We wanted paywalls and online subscriptions. Those in power refused. They believed they knew better but they didn’t. Paywalls are more common now but it’s too late.
Newspapers could have survived if they’d listened to their reporters and editors. And we’d have a healthier democracy. The people in charge were not as smart as they thought … which is often the case.
